Transfer to a Queensland security licence
To work as a security provider in Queensland you need a Queensland licence. For short-term work, you can apply for a temporary interstate permit.
If you have a security licence from another Australian state or territory or New Zealand, you can apply to transfer it to a Queensland licence. This is known as mutual recognition, where a licence from 1 state or territory can be used to apply for a licence in another place.
You can continue to work while your transfer application is being processed. During this period, you must:
- follow any restrictions on your existing licence
- stop working if your existing licence expires
- show your existing licence to an inspector when asked
- show the payment receipt of your Queensland mutual recognition application—this is issued when you lodge your application.
Only individuals can apply for mutual recognition, not security firms.
Temporary interstate permits
If you're working in Queensland for a short time, you may be eligible to hold a temporary permit. Temporary permits are also available to security firms.
